A List of Brilliant Things
when the going gets tough, it's time to make LISTS
To say things have felt tricky in the last couple of weeks would be a bit of an understatement. I vroomed into September with back to school gusto, naive to the fact that sometimes, life has other plans and it doesn't always sync up with your imaginary expectations of things. Very, very rude.
Did life not realise it was my Meg Ryan autumn and all I wish to ponder over is whether I could bring a bowler hat back into fashion and whether men and women can, really, actually ever really just be friends?!
But if I've learnt something- it's that when things are hard you simply cannot always just stop. The push and pull of routine and life require you to keep on. Work is knocking, responsibilities are waiting. Being a parent requires this of me, that goes without saying. And much to my dismay, and as much as it feels like a necessity- I just can't curl up into a human cinnamon bun. Sometimes that's a bad thing, but sometimes being metaphorically pushed out of the house by small four year old hands who demand sand pits and scooters is actually a blessing.
And whilst you don't owe anyone anything online, lest those you don't know, I think there's a nagging inside of me that feels a pang of dishonesty leaving the gaps out sometimes. Going on beautiful trips to Paris and pursuing renovations, without colouring in the in-between of what goes on in the days where life steamrolls on. Sometimes heavy and complicated and simply not made for carousels, story sets or reels peppered with a gorgeous slinky Olivia Dean song (have tried crying along to Man I Need and it just doesn’t work as well, I promise).
