on adjusting to being alone (and why 16 minute voice notes *possibly* aren't the answer) plus why the M&S cafe is the perfect place for a heartbreak read...

The absolute GLEE of finding a photo you took to accompany some deep writing which features a rainbow through the clouds- it’s pure poetry!

Some of the things I am comically bad at include but are not limited to:

  • Being on time. I have tried, endlessly to not make this even a fraction of my personality but it seems to be so deep rooted that I'm starting to wonder if we need an annual clock change for me alone (which might be one of the most egotistical things I've said, but I'm sure anyone that's ever met me in person would be grateful).

  • Watching TV shows before they dissolve into irrelevance or the internet’s equivalent of chip shop paper. I am confident that one day someone will tell me I'll really like a series and I'll watch it in the same week, but I'm not sure when that day is. I think this autumn could be the grand season of Gilmore Girls for me, but we shall see.

  • Drinking enough water. If one day you find me shrivelled in a pack of Sun Maid with my other fellow raisin friends, do not be surprised. This will absolutely be my comeuppance for the lack of water I get through in a day.

  • Being on my own.

Theres a lot of adjusting that comes after a break up. Lots of adjusting and firsts. A bit like dating- only in reverse and far less exciting (with only yourself to have a twenty minute internal discussion of ‘what do you want for dinner tonight? no, what do you want for dinner tonight!’)

One of the hardest things, for me, was adjusting to being alone. I have never, ever been good on my own. I recharge around other people, and find adapting to quiet and solitude one of the most adult things someone can do- because I’m simply crap at it (I remember picking up this book in a true attempt to learn time spent solo like it was knitting or a new recipe).
