The 5 Artists and Bands Soundtracking My Spring (So Far)
(and the songs you'll repeat so often you'll have to start listening to podcasts)...
There are many elements of my life where I think I can safely call myself ‘predictable’.
The five weeknight dinners I’ll pull out on rotation each week (a classic Linda McCartney ragu, mama P’s mac ‘n’ cheese, a salmon and lemon traybake etc. etc.), what I’ll order on the Pizza Express menu (and the honest truth that I’ll quite happily eat there over about 60% of other places in London) and the fact that when it comes to picking a film on one of the rare evenings that I’m awake past 9pm- you can almost guarantee it’ll have either Julia Roberts/Meg Ryan or Hugh Grant in one of the lead roles (I have taste! What can I say!!)
BUT! When it comes to music, although I definitely have been known to play the same 3 songs on repeat until they are thoroughly exhausted (a habit that I may have passed on to my toddler, or my toddler may have passed on to me)- I like to think I’m a bit of an open book. I follow my nose when it comes to what sounds good. I have little knowledge of what is actually ‘current’ and ‘cool’ (my most played of August last year was the Cabaret soundtrack and I wholly and completely stand by singing along in the car so loudly I’m sure drivers next to me in traffic wondered if I was genuinely ok). I think the joy in music is the fact there’s so much of it, old and new, that you’re always just around the corner from stumbling into something exciting to listen to.
So, I welcome you to see this post as the equivalent of bumping into an old friend who is just about to hand you a lovely little selection of bands to listen to as spring begins. In typical Liv fashion, there’s always a glorious late-to-the-party contribution (it’s hard to keep up with what’s new when you’re stuck in a west-end musical vortex sometimes) but I hope there might be something new (to you) that your ears can enjoy (and maybe impress a pal with, like you’re a cool 6 music DJ… Ahem!)
